The Wolverine (2013)

A collection of work from the film, The Wolverine, where I was an Assistant Art Director. The Silver Samurai model was initially developed in Softimage by Paul Ozzimo in L.A. When the production moved to Sydney, I took over the model inside Rhino where we continued design development on the helmet, shoulder wings, hands, chest, waist and knee pads specifically. As well as this, the entire model had to be reworked to become a physical prop with articulation and the ability to support itself in a seated and standing position.

A more comprehensive breakdown of this project can be found in my article on page 37 of the Art Director's Guild Perspectives magazine here.

Production Designer Francios Audouy.

My first 3D printed parts! Here you see the 3 fingers and armoured hand plate for the Silver Samurai. Each finger was made up of 10 separate parts each that were modelled with .5mm gaps between them. The 3D printer actually printed the fingers in the assembled form you see here, including the captive pins that the joints rotated around.
Photo of the finished hand and helmet after they had been given a 'burnished' grain and finish. Each piece of the finished prop was sanded and finished by hand.
